Located in the northern part of Western Australia is the tranquil region of Chittering. This area has a rich history which dates back to the times when the region was still inhabited by the indigenous Australian communities.

Prior to the arrival of the white settlers, the region had been home to the Bindjareb Noongar people who were known for fishing, hunting and gathering bush foods. They lived in harmony with the environment and had a deep spiritual connection to the land. The Noongar people believe that everything has a spirit and they took great care to preserve their environment.

When European settlers arrived in the region, they found fertile land and began farming and mining. In the early 19th century, many Chinese immigrants came to work in the goldfields. They were known for their hard work and enterprise and made a significant contribution to the development of the region.

The town of Bindoon was established in the 1840s as a result of the pastoral industry, and it quickly became the administrative centre of the Chittering region. It was also home to the Benedictine Monastery which was established in 1928 by Archbishop Clune. The monastery is known for its agricultural achievements and has a flourishing dairy and agriculture program that produces high-quality food products.

The town of Muchea was also established in the 19th century and became a key centre for the agricultural industry. The town was known for its wheat and wool production and also played a key role in the transportation of goods between Perth and the northern areas of Western Australia.

The Chittering Valley Irrigation Scheme was established in the 1960s and transformed the region's agricultural industry. The scheme allowed for the cultivation of fruits and vegetables, and the region soon became known for its production of citrus fruits, grapes and berries. The region also has a thriving tourism industry that attracts visitors who come to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

Today, the Chittering region is a blend of the old and the new. The area has retained its strong agricultural heritage while embracing modern technology and methods of farming. The region's natural beauty and rich history continue to attract visitors from all over the world, and the future looks bright for this vibrant and dynamic region of Western Australia.
